Car from 2017, made in 2016, 530d Touring xDrive Msport, 150.000km so far, bought with 42.000 in 2020. Excellent for many reasons, but not perfect.
Major issue: air intake clogged with carbon particules, changed, cost €1.500, BMW says that it is normal. In my opinion “normal” would be like setting a cleaning session of this part at every scheduled maintenance, instead of leaving that it cloggs. I had to change also another rubber part connecting the driveshaft “flange coupling” – BMW code 2699000 (€160 + €150 labour cost). Rear wiper sometimes goes beyond end and stops, I have to pull it back just a little bit to hear a “click” and it’s ok again. Brought to BMW to repair but it still does it. Luggage compartment cover didn’t retract correctly, BMW dealer repaired it. Plastic plugs with BMW emblem for wheels loose color sometimes. I have front left whitened, other still in good shape. It may well be some chemicals used wurgin car washing, but I do not understand why it happens randomly.
Carplay keeps doing same error: after a phone call it does not return to normal operations, reactivating the radio FM station, but stays mute and I have to click on FM radio button memory to reactivate sound.
Compromise between stiffness of suspensions and comfort is in my opinion optimal. I’ve driven it at 255kph and it was pretty stable. When turning, the 2000kg weight is clearly there, but low center of gravity helps. Steering could be a bit more direct and precise, in my opinion. Don’t miss the opportunity to install 2 things I’m missing on my 530: automatic adjusting of suspensions (with Msport are “always” sporty) and most of all rear wheels steering, that is like shortening the car by 1 meter: it will help you in the garage turning but also when changing lanes at 200kph.
Ah: with a bit of attention my communting (30km on normal roads at 110/90kmh) can be made at 18/l average consumption (eco-mode, maximum coasting and minimazing braking). Without attention “normal” mode, oserving limits but without optimizing coasting) is always 14-15. For a 2 ton car, 4 wheel drive, 3 liters turbo, I believe it’s absolutely fantastic efficiency.
Summarizing: I’d buy it again and again, with self adjusting suspensions and rear wheels steering.
